| Early obituaries from the 1880s indicate that this was originally called the Morrellville Burial Grounds. Two obituaries from 1898 listed it as the Hill Rest Cemetery, and more recent listed it as the Decker Cemetery. Note: Many of the burials were re-interred elsewhere, mainly between Grandview Cemetery and Benshoff Hill Cemetery. As of this time, there are only two headstones remaining - that of Samuel Arentrue and of John Wambaugh. There is also a footstone remaining. After checking with Grandview, there are several obituaries of infants that apparently were not re-interred. Many of the obituaries that state different cemetery names for this plot are that of children who lived within several blocks of this cemetery. Also, early city maps show this plot to be larger at one time. It is very likely that part of the original cemetery was built upon by neighboring homes after these graves were relocated. As more research is being done I am continually coming across obituaries for people once or still interred here. - Brian J. Ensley |
| Directions: | This cemetery is located in the City of Johnstown, at the intersection of Decker Ave. and Beatrice Ave. It is small and very easy to miss. |
