ANGUS, Benjamin Franklin Dorothy Angus Aitcheson Benjamin Franklin Angus, enlisted on 10 August 1861, and served with Company "H" 12, PA Reserves (41) Res. Volunteers. He was a Private and was an Ambulance driver. Mustered out in June of 1864 at Harrisburg, PA.
BOPP, John Jeremy W. Bopp John Bopp was born on April 30, 1823 in Bamburg, Bavaria. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1854 and later that year settled in New Germany. He was married to Kunnigunda Schutz on December 31, 1854 in St. Bartholomews Church in Wilmore. He was drafted into the Civil War under the name John Popp and was enlisted, as a private, in Hollidaysburg on December 22, 1864 in Company D, 28th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was mustered out on July 18, 1865 near Washington, D.C. John died on December 02, 1902 in New Germany and was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Germany.
BRINDLE, Albert Carl Gaus Albert Brindle - born Apr 30 1828 in Germany. Immigrated to Johnstown in 1848. Naturalized in Cambria Co. in 1856. Died March 18 1883 in Johnstown. Buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Geistown. Mustered in September 2 1864 Battery D, 204th PA Artillery. Mustered out as Sgt. on June 30 1865.
BRINDLE, Jacob Carl Gaus JACOB BRINDLE - born Jul 25 1839 in Germany. Immigrated to Johnstown in 1856. Naturalized in Cambria Co. in Cambria Co. in 1866. Died March 16 1897 in Johnstown. Buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Geistown. He enlisted for 3 years while working as a teamster in Pittsburgh, mustered in on August 18 1862 to Co. C, 159th Regt., 14th Cavalry. On November 24 1862 he was transferred to Co. C, 2nd US Cavalry. After several battles he was transferred to Ft. Levenworth, KS. From there he was transferred to Pittsburgh for mustering out on November 2 1865. He immediately married a Somerset Co. girl in Pittsburgh and moved back to Johnstown. Jacob enlisted with an Pittsburgh group and is memorialized on a placque in the Allegheny Co. Soldiers and Sailors Hall. His wife received a Widow's Pension in Johnstown. He truely was a Johnstowner.
DORAN, Michael Francis Jackie Greer Michael Francis Doran served in the Spanish-American war as a Private in Battery A, 4th Artilary Regiment. He enlisted at Punxatawney, Pa. He moved to Spangler in 1900. Michael was born in Scotland October 19, 1874 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen on December 3, 1935. He was the postmaster in Spangler, and on the expansion board for Miners Hospital.
DUNLAP, Charles Robert Wallace Mary Terrill MacLeod Charles Robert Wallace Dunlap, born 29 October 1841 in Pennsylvania, son of John and Elizabeth Coplan Dunlap, enlisted 10 September 1861 at Cherry Tree, Indiana Co., PA in Company D, 78th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry under Captain Robert McCormick and Colonel William Sirwell, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 14th Corps, Army of the West. He was honorably discharged 29 May 1863 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee after being disabled due to an injury to his knee during the Battle of Stones River 31 December 1862 and 1 January 1863. After his discharge he returned to Cambria Co., married Mary Magdalene Miller in 1865, and lived in Cambria Co. until his death on 12 January 1917.
GEORGE, Christopher C. Hedy Arlene George Enedy Ryan Christopher C. George served with Co. B. 139th PVI.
GEORGE, Frederick L. Hedy Arlene George Enedy Ryan Frederick L. George served with the 149th Reg. PVI.
HALE, Abram Joe Rishell Abram Hale, born 1834, brother to the Solomon Hale (who is listed on the monument), fought in the Civil War. Abram was from Johnstown. He enlisted as a Private on August 31, 1864 in G Company, 206th Inf. Reg., Pa Volunteers. He was mustered out at Richmond, Va. on June 26, 1865.
KESSLER, Fabian Donald Kessler Fabian Kessler, of Conemaugh Borough (Johnstown), fought in the Civil War as a Corporal with 5th PA Heavy Artillery (204th PA Vol.) Battery D. He mustered in September 2, 1864 and mustered out June 30, 1865. In Fabian's military records his name was recorded as Frederick Kessler. In the Pension application filed by his widow, Genevieve in 1890, there were affidavits confirming that Fabian Kessler and Frederick Kessler was the same person. Fabian is buried in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (Giestown).
McCULLOUGH, David G. P. Gary Burkett When the Civil War broke out in April 1861 he was a member of the Johnstown Zouaves and went with the company a few days after Lincoln's first call for volunteers to defend the Union. Later he enlisted in the 54th Regiment, P.V.I. under Col. J.M. Campbell and served in Company A, his Captain being John P. Sutter. He was mustered in as a corporal. He was honorably discharged on February 9, 1864 and immediately re-enlisted. He was wounded in the left arm during the battle of New Market in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, on May 15, 1864, and was confined to an Army hospital for eight months. He was a President of the 54th. Regimental Association and a member of the committee that erected the 54th. Regiment's monument in Johnstown's Central Park.
MEISEL, George E. Nancy Troxel George E. Meisel was born Dec. 1, 1840 in Cumberland Md. Married Elizabeth Borkey, May 17, 1863. Elizabeth died Nov. 3, 1873 and then he married Margaret Ahles June 15, 1875. He enlisted Nov. 18, 1864 in Hollidaysburg, PA. He was a Private in Co. D. 93rd Regt. Penna Veteran Infantry. He was wounded March 25, 1865 at Ft. Fisher, near Petersburg, Va. He lost part of his left ear. Discharged June 26, 1865. He died March 25, 1919 In Carrolltown and is buried in St. Benedict's Cemetery there. Certificate # 1056647 -- U.S Dept of the Interior. There were 4 children by the 1st wife and 8 by the second wife.
MEISEL, Thomas Nancy Troxel Thomas Meisel was born May 3, 1844, Enlisted in Philadelphia, September 19, 1864 -- Co. D. 28th Penna. Inf. Vols. Honorably discharged Jun3 2, 1865. He married Mary Theresa Hopfer, at St. Benedict's in Carrolltown, May 30th 1871. He died May 20th, 1890 leaving 9 children under the age of 16, with depts totaling more than his property was worth. Pension Cert. # 317036 Box # 38297.
PARKINSON, George W. Charles J. Spence George W. Parkinson fought in the Civil War as a Corporal with Company K 29th Regt. Pa Vol 1861 - 1865.
POWELL, Jeremiah D. Rodney E. Horner Jeremiah D. Powell is the uncle of Daniel Powell and the brother of David Powell, Jr., both of whom are listed on the Ebensburg Memorial. A native of Ebensburg, he served in the Civil War as a Sergeant. Jeremiah joined Battery A, Chicago, Illinois Light Artillery on July 16, 1861 at Cairo, Illinois. He enlisted at the age of 25 for the duration of the war. Jeremiah, a son of David Powell, Sr., made the ultimate sacrifice for his country when he was killed in the Battle of Pittsburg Landing (also known as the Battle of Shiloh). According to the notice of his death in the newspaper, Jeremiah "was a sober intelligent and brave young man."
PRINGLE, Martin Lynne Canterbury and Diann Olsen Martin Pringle, son of Martin P. & Elizabeth (Walter) Pringle, of Cambria County, PA fought in the Civil War, enlisting August 16, 1861 in Co. G, 12th US Infantry. Martin made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, when he was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness, May 5, 1864, and died May 20, 1864.
SARLOUIS, Andrew Cheryl Jordan Andrew Sarlouis served in the Civil War as part of Co. F 21st regiment Pennsylvania Calvary Volunteers. He was mustered in on 17 February 1864 and mustered out at Lynchburg, VA on 8 July 1865. He was a corporal at discharge. He died 12 January 1901 in Johnstown, PA.
SARLOUIS, Mathias Cheryl Jordan Mathias Sarlouis was a private in Co. D, 204 5th Pennsylvania Volunteers Heavy Artillery. He was enrolled August 31, 1864 and discharged June 30th 1865 at Vienna, Va. Mathias died 8 August, 1902 in Summit Co. Ohio.
WARNER, Pius Charles J. Spence Pius Warner of Cambria City Johnstown Pa. was a Private with Company D, 55th Regt. Pa. Vol 1861 - 1865.
WEAVER, Jesse E. Mary W. Bookout Jesse E. Weaver was a Private with the 81st PA Infantry Volunteers, Company A. Jesse mustered in 29 August 1864 at Hollidaysburg, and mustered out on April 30, 1865 near Alexandria, Virginia, being honorably discharged June 1, 1865. Jesse was born in Wilmore, the son of Elizabeth Rienhart and Jacob Weaver of Wilmore. Jesse was the husband of Susan Ann Brown Blanchard and is buried in South Fork Cemetery.
WILLIAMS, David K. Dave Williams David K. Williams lived in Cambria County his entire life. He was born 22 February 1839 and died 6 January 1917. He is buried in Lloyd Cemetery. David served with Co. A Ind Bat.
YEAGER, John B. Edward Yeager John B. Yeager fought with the 5th Pennsylvania Cavalry in the Civil War. He enlisted in Pittsburgh on August 9, 1861. He was wounded in the arm on a cavalry raid near Walkerton Virginia on July 8, 1862, and was taken prisoner and sent to Libby Prison. John was exchanged July 19,1862 and sent to Bellevue Hospital in New York. He was discharged from service on November 14, 1862 because of the disability of his arm. John was born June 17, 1833 in Alsace, France and died January 4, 1915 in Dale Borough.
