KIRSCH -- Died at his residence in Barr township on Sunday, August 12th, 1888, Mr. John Kirsch, aged 59 years.
The deceased was born in France in 1829. When he was two years of age his parents left France and sailed to free America. They settled on the premises now owned by Joseph Kirsch, situated about two miles northeast of Nicktown where he and the other members of the family were raised. When he had grown to manhood he married Francisca Strittmatter, a sister of the well known Strittmatters of Carrolltown, with whom he lived on said premises for eleven years, after which time he bought the property situated about a mile south of Nicktown, to which he removed and resided up to his death. The property consisted of all woodland on which he cleared about eighty acres, and at present had it in an excellent state of cultivation with the addition of fine buildings and orchard.
He is the father of nine children, six boys and three girls, seven of them are still living, two died in their infancy, Aloysius and Francis. The living are John P., a resident of Blacklick township, Catharine, wife of Theodore Nealen, residing in Barr township, Elenora, now Sister M. Agnes, who is in the Convent at Virginia City, Nev., Mary F., now Sister M. Demetria, in the Convent at Easton, Pa., Augustine P., residing in Barr township, Andrew S. and Anselm B., who are yet at home. He has eighteen grand children, fourteen living and four dead. He was a respectable citizen and a good and kind neighbor and it is with regret that we chronicle his death.
His funeral took place at Nicktown, on Aug. 14th, at 9 o'clock A. M. May his soul rest in peace.
