EBENSBURG, PA 1890 7 Feb 1890 Mrs. Isaac Weakland died at her home in Elder township on Tuesday of last week. On Wednesday, Mr. William D. Pryce and wife, of Cambria township, celebrated their golden wedding---the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Mrs. Joseph Adams, of Allegheny township, died on Monday last aged about sixty years. Her funeral took place at St. Augustine on Wednesday. Mr. Joseph Farabaugh, of Carrolltown, desires us to inform the public that his picture gallary, in Carrolltown, is open every day except Thursday and Friday of each week. Give him a call. John Reed, a Huntingdon druggist bid his family good night on Wednesday evening and retired to his room. Immediately afterwards a heavy fall was heard in his room and upon going to his room he was found lying on the floor dead. Heart disease. Hugh McMullen died at the home of his son-in-law Elias Barnicle, in Clearfield township, on Monday last, aged eighty-seven years and one month. Mr. McMullen was born on the third day of February, 1803, it being the third day of the week, the third day of the month, and the third year in the century. Mrs. Sarah Davis died at the residence of her son, Mr. Isaac Davis, on Wednesday night. She was one of the oldest residents of Ebensburg, having reached the advanced age of ninety years. Her funeral will take place tomorrow at 1:30 o'clock. Joseph Berut, a resident of Johnstown, but formerly of Homestead, Pa., where he was foreman of the plate mill at that place, committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree on the Cambria Iron Company's farm near Grand View Cemetery, on Wednesday morning. Bernt was a German by birth and leaves a wife and five children. His mind had been affected for some time. Thomas Plummer Jr., of Summerhill, who was employed on the Pennsylvania Railroad as a freight brakeman, had both his legs cut off by the cars at South Fork on Tuesday evening. Medical aid was of no avail and he died from his injuries at an early hour on Wednesday morning. The deceased was unmarried and was a son of Thomas Plummer, of Summerhill. His remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery at Wilmore on Thursday.

Friday, 14 Mar 1890 Mrs. Christ Adams, who for some time past has been seriously ill, is gradually recovering. The Kirsch brothers are at present busily engaged in erecting a new steam saw mill on the Andrew Kirsch tract. Mr. Samuel Miller, of Blacklick township, died one day last week from pneumonia, caused by a relapse from the grip. John Peters, on Wednesday of last week, removed his family and household goods to Johnstown, where he is employed as a carpenter. Miss Sadie Brown, of Pine township, Indiana county, was on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Laura Long, of this township, the past week. FREIDHOFF--Died at his home in Munster township, on Saturday, March 15, 1890, Mr. Henry Freidhoff, aged about 30 years. Friday, 28 Mar 1890 McCOY--Died at his home in Chest Springs, on Thursday, March 20, 1890. Mr. Anthony McCoy, aged 84 years. The deceased was one of the pioneer residents of the county and a highly esteemed and respected citizen. He followed the occupation of a farmer until old age inactivated him from the laborious duties. He leaves to survive him six children: Mrs. Mary Millin and Mrs. Kate McGinley, of Johnstown; Bridget, James and Andrew, residing at Chest Springs, and Frank McCoy, of Altoona. The interment took place at Loretto on Saturday last. MORGAN--Died at his home in Ebensburg, on Thursday, March 27, 1890. Mr. William Morgan, aged about 75 years. HUFFMAN--Died at the home of his parents, in Barr township, on Friday, March 14, 1890, Mr. John Huffman, aged 20 years. BENDER--Died at her home, in Carroll township, on Wednesday, March 26, 1890, Mrs. Ellen Bender, wife of Joseph Bender, aged 72 years. Friday, 11 Apr 1890 Mrs. Henry Byrnes, of the East ward, fell on the icy pavement one day last week and was severely injured. She is slowly improving. Mr. George Ahles, of Carroll township, passed through this place on Monday on his way to Wisconsin. He will visit a number of other States in the West and may settle permanently in one of them. Conrad Meyer, whose wife and family reside at Summerhill, was found dead in bed in Troxell's hotel in Johnstown, on Tuesday. He was about sixty-five years of age. LILLY, PA., April 2, 1890. Editor Freeman.--It is with sincere regret that this community is called upon to mourn the death of one of our most respectable citizens, in the person of Mr. Gephart Bender, in the fifty eighth year of his age, which occurred on Saturday, March 29th at 7:30 o'clock A.M. Deceased was a native of Germany and came to America in 1850, locating in this place. he was a shoemaker by trade, and during the intervening years of his life worked constantly at his occupation with the exception of about a year. He served as a private in the late rebellion in Co. A, 55th P.V.'s. As a soldier he was brave, and through many kind acts won the hearts of his comrades. At the close of the war he married Miss Mary Sill, of Allegheny township, this county, and as the result of this union was born to them eight children, two of whom are dead; the survivors are William, Mary, Basil, Gephart and Maggie Catharine the wife of Andrew Boley. The remains were followed to the Catholic church at this place by a large concourse of mourning relatives and sorrowing friends, when, after appropriate services by Rev. Father Walsh, the remains were borne to the beautiful Catholic cemetery that overlooks the town, and after services conducted by the Grand Army Post (of which he was a member) all that was mortal of a loving husband, a kind father, a good Catholic and citizen and an uncompromising Democrat was laid to rest in peace. (The above was received too late last week for publication.--ED) Friday, 9 May 1890 Mr. M. D. Bearer has purchased the Mrs. Sarah Davis property on Julian street for $1,800. On Monday last S.D. Keith, of Altoona, was elected Superintendent of Schools in that city. Mr. P.J. Little, son of W.A.B. Little, Esq., of Allegheny township, entered the office of M. D. Kittell, Esq., of this place, as a law student on Monday. Mrs. Daniel McLaughlin, of Pittsburg, who was in town Tuesday, says Mr. McLaughlin, is lying dangerously ill with but poor hopes of recovery.--Gallitzin Vindicator. Edward Elig, aged 21 years, son of Mr. Joseph Elig, died at his father's residence in Cambria township on Sunday last. his remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery, this place on Tuesday. Harvy Van Pelt, a prominent Democrat of Centre Hall, Centre county, died last Friday night of Bright's disease. he was associated with Governor Beaver and General Hastings in the building of Hastings, in this county. The remains of William D. Pryce, mention of whose death was made in our paper last week, were entered in Lloyd's cemetery on last Saturday afternoon at one o'lock (sic) followed to their last resting place by a large number of relatives and friends. -Peter J. Parks, Johnstown Friday, 23 May 1890 John Pringle, aged 75 years, died at his home in Tennessee on Friday last. Mr. Pringle was born in Summerhill township, this county, and for a number of years was a resident of Johnstown, which city he left in 1858. He was a brother of William Pringle, of Summerhill township. -Francis S. Yingling, Altoona, Blair County and Mattie E. Gutwald, Cresson -William H. Plummer and Minnie A. Johnson, Ashville -Victor E. Gill, Chest township and Laura Cassidy, Clearfield township -James T Platt, Ashville and Mary Miller, Chest Springs Friday, 27 Jun 1890 Mrs. Catharine Nagle, wife of John Nagle, of Clearfield township, died on Sunday, June 22, 1890, aged 69 years. Her remains were intered at St. Augustine on Tuesday last at nine oclock. (sic). Friday, 25 Jul 1890 Sam Luther was committed for trial on Monday by Alderman Easly in default of $500 bail on a charge of rape, preferred by a Mr. Sager, who is employed as a watchman at the Johnstown Chemical Works. The offense was committed last August. A warrant was issued at that time, but Luther had skipped and could not be found until he was arrested on Monday for disorderly conduct. -- Johnstown Democrat. James N. McGuire, Esq., of Gallitzin township, was found dead in the basement of his house at Bakers Mines, in that township, on Tuesday night about ten o'clock, with his neck broken. He was alone in the house at the time, the rest of his family having been out at a show that was in town. As there were two doors in the hall way of Mr. McGuire's house close together, the one leading to his bedroom, the other to the basement, it supposed the man was going to his bedroom in the dark and entering the wrong door, fell with the result above stated. The deceased was about 65 years of age and leaves a family. Friday, 1 Aug 1890 Michael H. Nagle, a well-known hotel keeper of Hastings, is lying dangerously ill with Bright's disease. Mr. Henry Little, of Clearfield township, died suddenly on Sunday last at the home of his brother-in-law, Mr. John Nagle, at St. Augustine. He was sitting in the house nursing one of his children when he let the child fall and, leaning back in his chair, expired. He was about sixty-five years of age and it is supposed that heart disease was the cause of his death. BAKER--Died at his home in Clearfield township on Friday, July 25th, 1890, Mr. John Baker, aged about 75 years. Friday, 5 Sep 1890 John Sharbaugh, formerly a resident of Carroll township, died in Altoona on Saturday last where he had been living for several years. his remains were taken to Carrolltown, and interred in the Catholic cemetery in that place on Monday last. Mr. Sharbaugh was about 80 years of age. Friday, 12 Sep 1890 Mrs. Catharine Scanlan, one of the oldest residents of Cambria county, died at her home in Loretto, on Monday last. The deceased was born April 22, 1814, and was a daughter of Mr. Luke McGuire, who was one of the early settlers and made the first improvement in the county. She was married in 1828 to Richard Scanlan, who died in Loretto, in 1855. Her remains were interred in St. Michael's cemetery in Loretto, on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. Friday, 19 Sep 1890 William Kirkpatrick, son of Augustine Kirkpatrick, died at his fathers' residence in this place, on Thursday evening of last week, aged about 23 years. The young man had been employed in Altoona, where he contracted typhoid fever and returned home about a month previous to his death. his remains were interred in Carrolltown on last Saturday morning. Friday, 10 Oct 1890 Mrs. Katie, wife of John W. Miller, of Carroll township, died on Friday of last week from consumption, aged about thirty-nine years. Ex-Sheriff Joseph A. Gray and Philip Dietrich, two well known citizens of Carrolltown, are both laid up with typhoid fever. Herbert Zephyrinus, infant child of Mr. E.C. and Mrs. Rose Parrish, of this place, died on Wednesday October 8th 1890 aged one month and twelve days. The new Catholic church at Chest Springs, will be dedicated to the service of God on Sunday next, October 12th. The sermon on the occasion will be delivered by Rev. Father Wall, of Pittsburg.
