A Young Man Drowned.

Augustine Luther, son of the late John W. Luther, of Carroll township, and a brother of Michael and Edward Luther, of this place, was drowned in the Conemaugh river between Coopersdale and Morrellville on Friday last, about eleven o'clock in the forenoon.

Young Luther, who was a blacksmith by trade, was working for Messrs. J.A. & H.A. Shoemaker, who have the contract for building the abutments for the new bridge in the course of erection between the two places. On the morning of the fatal accident he and Albert Farabaugh had crossed the river in a skiff for the purpose of tightening some guy-ropes. They had crossed the river and were returning, working their way over by pulling on the rope instead of using oars, and when about mid-stream they dipped the boat, which began filling with water, and both men sprang out. Farabaugh got hold of the boat and succeeded in working his way out, but Luther, who could not swim, sank at once and was seen no more. All day on Friday and Saturday searching parties were engaged in looking for the body but were unsuccessful, and up to the present time it has not been found. The young man, who was well known in Ebensburg where he had worked for some time previous to his going to Johnstown, was about 19 years of age, and was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him.
