HUMMEL. - At the residence of her son, Samuel F. HUMMEL, in Richland Township, on Thursday afternoon, June 20, 1895, at 2:30 o'clock, Sarah, relict of Samuel HUMMEL aged 80 years 8 months and 20 days.

Funeral at 10 o'clock on Sunday morning from the Elton Lutheran Church; interment in Dunmire's Graveyard.

Mrs. Sarah Hummel.

Mrs. Sarah Hummel, one of the most aged and respected residents of Richland Township, died suddenly at her home near Geistown at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, aged eighty years eight months and twenty days. Deceased was born and raised in Paint Township, Somerset County, on a farm two miles east of Davidsville, now owned by Mrs. Charlotte Livingston.

Mrs. Hummel's maiden name was Custer and she was married twice. Her first husband was Jacob Livingston, of Paint Township, who died many years ago. Four children were born to this union, two of whom survive - Jacob, of Hooversville, and Mrs. Mary Harshberger of near Geistown. Her second husband was the late Samuel Hummel, of Adams Township, who died eleven years ago.

Five children were born of this union, four of whom are living - Lizzie, wife of John Yeager, of Conemaugh; Samuel, single and at home; Nancy, wife of Simon Thomas of Thomas' Mills, and Sarah, wife of William Layton, of South Fork. She is also survived by one brother - John Custer - of Richland Township, and one sister - Mrs. Rebecca Oaks, of Paint Township, Somerset County. Mrs. Hummel is survived by over fifty grandchildren, among whom are Mrs. Emma Helsel, of the Seventh Ward; David Harshberger, of Dale Borough, and Mrs. Elmer Berkey, of Lorain, O., and about thirty great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place from her late home at 8:30 o'clock on Sunday morning. Services will be conducted in the Lutheran Church at Elton by Rev. H. C. Salem, of Scalp Level, after which interment will be made in the Elton churchyard.
