After an illness of several months, the wife of Thomas Gore expired last evening at the family residence, No. 218 Locust street. Mrs. Gore's maiden name was Mitchell. She was a daughter of James H. Mitchell and was born at Laughlintown?, Westmoreland County, October 2, 1824. In 1944 the family came to Johnstown. In 1948, Miss Mitchell became the wife of Mr. Thomas Gore, but whom she is survived. She bore him eight children, one of whom died in infancy. The seven surviving ones are: Sophronia, wife of Wilson Barnett, of Hillside, Westmoreland County; James H., of Portland, Oregan; Amanda J., widow of Dr. J. E. She was unselfish, and her friendships were warm and lasting. She had unyielding religious convictions and with her there was something more than mere sentiment in church membership. She united with the Presbyterian communion when only fourteen years of age, and for the remainder of her life was a member of the Johnstown congregation.
