GORE, Amanda Jane

After an illness of several months, the wife of Thomas Gore expired last evening at the family residence, No. 218 Locust street. Mrs. Gore's maiden name was Mitchell. She was a daughter of James H. Mitchell and was born at Laughlintown?, Westmoreland County, October 2, 1824. In 1944 the family came to Johnstown. For a time they lived at the Mansion House corner, then at Frazer's corner, where Mr. Mitchell kept a temperance hotel, afterward where the banks now are, and finally on the sidte of Adair's Opera House, where Mr. Mitchell died in 1869.
In 1948, Miss Mitchell became the wife of Mr. Thomas Gore, but whom she is survived. She bore him eight children, one of whom died in infancy. The seven surviving ones are: Sophronia, wife of Wilson Barnett, of Hillside, Westmoreland County; James H., of Portland, Oregan; Amanda J., widow of Dr. J. E. Hutchinson; John M. and Willis K., of Chicago; George S., of Pittsburgh, and Ella P. wife of Dr. J. S. Taylor, of this city. There are also five grandchildren and several sisters and brothers, viz.: Mrs. Ellen M. Walters, of this city; Mrs. W. F. Klink of Newville, Cumberland County; Miss Eliza Mitchell, of this city; Joseph T. Mitchell, of Nashville, Tenn.; George Mitchell, of Pittsburgh, and William D. Mitchell, of this city.
The death of Mrs. Gore will be sincerely and deeply mourned by this entire community. Her life was devoted to her family and to the discharge of kindly offices among ner neighbors. She was unselfish, and her friendships were warm and lasting. She had unyielding religious convictions and with her there was something more than mere sentiment in church membership. She united with the Presbyterian communion when only fourteen years of age, and for the remainder of her life was a member of the Johnstown congregation.
The funeral will take place on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment will be made in Grand View.
GORE. -- In Johnstown, on Friday afternoon, March 20, 1891, at 4:20; Amanda Jane, wife of Thomas Gore, aged 66 years, 4 months and 18 days.
Funeral on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence, No. 216 Locust street; interment in Grand View.
