Mrs. Rosanna Penrod Laird, wife of William P. Laird, died between 6 and 7 oclock Saturday evening at the Laird home, 225 School place, First Ward, after a few weeks illness of a complication of diseases, in her 70th year. Her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Taylor, of Rochester, Pa. and her son were called home Saturday, the former arriving about 30 minutes before her mother passed away, Clarence Laird, her son, arrived yesterday from Wyoming, this State, The funeral will take place at 2:30 oclock tomorrow afternoon, the services to be conducted by the Rev. Robert D. Clare, pastor of the First Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a member. Interment will be made in Grandview Cemetery.
The deceased was a daughter of John and Sarah Kuntz Penrod and was born near Stoyestown, Somerset County, on October 15, 1846. She was one of a family of 14 children, two of whom, Jeremiah and Martin Penrod served in the Civil War. Miss Penrod came to Johnstown many years ago and was married here on November 3, 1874, to William P. Laird, the ceremony having been performed by the Rev. Dr. Reuben A. Fink, deceased, who was pastor of the First Lutheran Church for many years. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Laird, all of whom are dead except Maude, wife of J. F. Taylor, of Rochester; Misses Edith and Florence Laird, at home and Clarence Laird , of Wyoming.. Mr. Laird also survives his wife, with six grandchildren, a brother, John Penrod, of the Fifth Ward, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Penrod Wingard, f the Sixth Ward. The deceased united with the Lutheran Church in Somerset County many years ago. She had been a communicant of the First Church here since locating in this city.
