|Mrs. Caroline Lininger Varner, widow of William H. Varner, died at the Varner home, 321 Stoneycreek street, First Ward, at 5:30 oclock last evening, in her 72nd year. Her health had been impaired for some time. Funeral services will be conducted at the Varner home at 2 oclock Wednesday afternoon by the Reverend Robert D. Clare, pastor of the First Lutheran Church with burial in Grandview Cemetery.
The deceased was born in December 1845, near Blairsville, Indiana County, and was a daughter of John and Susannah Lowery Lininger. Miss Lininger and William H. Varner were married in Johnstown in 1871 by the late Rev. Dr. Reuben A. Fink, who was then the minister of the First Lutheran Church, of which Mrs. Varner was a devoted member. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Varner, Susan having passed away when quite young. The surviving daughter is Miss Bertha Varner at home. The death of Mr. Varner occurred in September 1901. Mrs. Varner was a sister of Mrs. Catherine Slagle, of Estherville; Mrs. R. A. Reighart, of Westmont; Mrs. Mary Slagle, of Lower Yoder Township; Amos Lininger, of the Sixth Ward; John W. Lininger of the First Ward; Miss Henrietta Lininger, of Lincoln Street, and Mrs. J. J. Yoder of Southmont
