Samuel Berkebile, aged 76 years, died early yesterday morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Messersmith, 345 Dorothy Avenue, Oakhurst Borough. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon, the services to be conducted by the Rev. Homer C. Renton of Calvary M. E. Church, of which Mr. Berkebile was a communicant. Burial will be made in Grandview Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Shade Township, Somerset County, coming to Johnstown many years ago to work for the Cambria Iron Company. Later he became a teamster. His wife, Mrs. Mary C. McVicker Berkebile died on July 19, 1905, at 175 Stone Street, Morrellville. She was born in Bedford County. Samuel Berkebile was a brother of Mrs. Elizabeth Felix, of Lower Yoder Township; Mrs. Abbie Custer of Crumb, Somerset County and John Berkebile of Mostollar, Somerset County.
The following sons and daughters also survive; Lowman Berkebile of Stone street, Morrellville, Frank Berkebile, of Grape Avenue, Morrellville, Mrs. Messersmith of Oakhurst, Mrs. James Felix and Mrs. Emres Gilbert, of Bheam Avenue, Morrellville, together with 27 grandchildren. |
